Meat filled and vegetable filled pan fried pies. They are delicious and keep one warm on a cold winter's day
Shenyang is unique as it is famous for many cold mixed salads. Similar to Thai salads, they are usually sweet, sour, salty and spicy. Various fresh vegetables along with things like noodles, potatoes, and more, make up this great regional cuisine

This is the infamous raw Korean beef salad with Asian pear, raw garlic, sesame oil, and a raw egg yolk. It is cold, refreshing and super delicious

Northeastern dumplings. These treasures have various fillings such as pork and sauerkraut, leek and egg, lamb and cilantro, etc. They are usually boiled but some prefer them steamed

Cold Korean Noodles from the north. This is a famous dish in North Korea and beloved all over the world. On a hot summer day, they can be super refreshing as they partially freeze the stock and is has shavings of ice in the authentic dish.

Northern Style sweet and sour pork. This is made with sugar and pork dipped in corn starch for a stickier dough-like "jacket"


Deep fried sweet potatoes with sugar is a very beloved dish usually served at the end of the diner. Local sweet potatoes are quite starchy so this dish can be very filling. The sugar is coated around the sweet potatoes and then deep fried all together. Dipped in water before eaten, the sugar hardens and gives a crispy crust around the starchy tubers
Hot pot at the famous "Hai Di Lao" where service comes before the excellent food that they offer. It is the gold standard of Sichuan hot pot dining


Original style of sauerkraut. Yes, sauerkraut came from this region of China and is the original fermented food. It is still done traditionally by most families in Shenyang.

Braised Chicken with Forest Mushrooms. This also has transparent "Yam" noodles with other complimentary ingredients. It is a salty and deep umami flavored dish.
Shenyang's Iron Pot - This is a dish that is usually braised fish or fish head, soy broth, and steamed corn pancakes that are baked on the side of the dish. The pancakes or "bing" are usually sweet and serve as the starch instead of rice.


This dish is potatoes, eggplant, and peppers. They are braised dry together and are usually quite oily. It is a pleasing side dish that fills one up and sometimes eaten with rice.
