The Storytellers

Adam Roy, a Chicago native, along with a long time friend Louisa “Che Che” Lupin, are along for the 7 days of storytelling. Louisa and Adam worked together in Shenyang at the Shangri-la Hotel in the new central business district.

Louisa is a Shenyang native. She is second

generation Chinese and falls in the minority of

ethnic Koreans. Her grandparents escaped from the Japanese military in North Korea after the war and settled down, like many other North Koreans, in Shenyang.

Shenyang has a thick history influenced by ancient Korea and visa versa.  Louisa has a passion for food and travel along with a

sincere personality like many local Shenyangnese have. She is a full time mother and assists her husband with their english language school based in Shenyang.

Chef Adam Roy graduated from Joliet Junior College in 1999.  As a proud graduate, he continued with his career to Europe. There he studied food and culture and fell in love with the fact that chefs and cooks have jobs all over the world.

After a year in Germany and a year in Switzerland, he decided to try large international cruise ships. That is where he saw many wonderful destinations and cruised his way to learning more about

culture and cuisine.  Being a career-student, Adam then went onto study Thai and Chinese cuisines in Singapore. He worked with Asian masters

teaching him the traditional and modern regional cuisines.

Moving to Thailand for 3 years while working with international companies, he then decided to go to the Middle East and join Shangri-la Hotels there. Two years in Oman, two more years in Penang, Malaysia and Adam finally reached China.

He worked as an Executive Chef for Shangri-la for the last 6 years of with that company in Hangzhou, Shenyang, and Chengdu.  After leaving the hotel industry, Chef Adam took a job teaching in South Korea and then Shanghai.

His passion is food and culture.   He finds Shenyang to be a magical place that is rich in history.  He loves the people and cuisine there too.

There is much more to this world than work and stress. There are moments to share with people that can last a lifetime - Adam
